@studio55jsm Ok, I am old but… in college not many people had extra money. Going out to eat was not in most kids budgets. 1960s, 1970s, no phones or devices. Socializing at each other’s apt or a local bar, walking or public trans, not using cars as much threw people out of our isolation. There is no substitute for talking face to face and it does not at all need to be dinner. Working with other people lets you see a lot about a person and now working at home is negative for meeting new people. We also DANCED more! More fun and opportunities to gather. I think the culture right now works against young people structurally.

@goldenxri not just young, middle aged as well. I blame dating app culture: people are expendable and interchangeable. Putting in real effort doesn’t matter. It’s also ridiculously expensive to dine out these days.
