About Storm Boston
City of Boston issued a coastal storm warning for Boston starting Friday, September 25 through Sunday, September 27, due to an early season nor’easter moving up the East Coast. The storm is expected to bring up to 4 inches of rain, damaging winds with gusts near 60 mph, and coastal flooding, with the peak impact Friday evening into Saturday. Officials have urged residents to stay indoors during the worst of the storm and avoid flooded roadways.
The National Weather Service has warned that fully-leafed trees combined with strong winds could lead to downed limbs and widespread power outages across eastern Massachusetts, including the Boston area. Cape Cod and the South Shore may see up to 6 inches of rainfall, while Boston proper is forecast for 3 to 4 inches through Monday. Several outdoor events have been canceled, including Ed Sheeran concerts in Boston, for public safety.
Residents can sign up for emergency alerts through AlertBoston for updates in 11 languages and should report power outages to Eversource by texting “OUT” to 23129. The nor’easter is also affecting regional travel and sporting events, with Boston College’s football game against Virginia Tech expected to be played in wet and windy conditions on Saturday.
