I coached kids for well over a decade so, argue if you want, but you’d better have more experience in the field than me

@joshuanaterman There has been no medically sound argument against that for, at bare minimum, 23 years. In 2003 the American Academy Of Pediatrics officially endorsed the safety of resistance training, like real resistance training, for children as young as 7 years old. The rules are competent coaching, able to behave safely in the gym, and having the necessary motor coordination to perform the exercise. That's it. Since that time, all available peer-reviewed research has consistently found that powerlifting and weightlifting are safe sports for kids so lo g as the above rules are followed. Injury rates are lower than any other sport, and we do not see growth plate issues in these groups. It's wild to me, as a physician who really doesn't have any special reading skills or any special ability to look for guidelines on child physical activity compared to other physicians, that so few of us are aware of just how long this has been the case. That includes many pediatricians.

@paul_smith_94 This is fantastic to read!

@nukauboi Bucking hay bales. Lots and lots of hay bales. Oh, and digging post hole with two handled post hole digger and driving steel posts. LOL If you don’t live on ranch/farm find one and ask if your kid can go work for one. When I was a kid we had multiple juniors or sophomores come out and work for a month in summer. They always said best workout they ever had.

@the_taiji_viking Kids don't need to use their training to signal Anabolic adaptations, their bodies are already overflowing with the Hormones that signal all that stuff. They just need tons of fun and novel Motor Tasks to solve so their CNS can get smarter and increase neural drive across the broadest range of positions possible

@wanderingwarrior69 The Children yearn for the FARM LIFE. Heavy Farmer Carry...😂

@ournextarc Have you had any experience in martial arts, and specifically with kids? Im curious what your take would be, where you would place it. Do you put it along side wrestling/gymnastics or more into contact sport? Personally, I think it's the most practical form of exercise as it also teaches self defense. No right or wrong here, just picking your brain!

@k_gingerly @juddlienhard - what is your definition of “kids” here when it comes to age and developmental stages?

@bobbyhughes32 Awesome thanks

@human893 Yes 100% focus on the neural development during a period of peak plasticity. That's the hardware that will then later allow them to install any software.

@all4jesus_jaho Got 8 kids of my own - in training them I have learned many of these lessons- it’s always great to read when others encourage the same - the youth sports has gotten outta control

@bischoffjoerg Great post @juddlienhard ! When would you start endurance training and which methods would you prefer?

@mbartleby1 Great post 🔥
