@toetoe At my age and level recovery time becomes the constraint.

@marmati_movement 🚵🏽 strength workout might improve performance so it’s reasonable to have some minutes of strength training. But avoid it during sunny days, to maintain mental health 😉

@ricyclesco Great points here!
@thenotoriousbiglebowski Then what would I do mentally to keep myself from going postal when I’m not riding?!

@fitnessinreno I consider myself a cyclist. It's a little bit of a stretch, I only ride 4 - 6 hours/week but it is my main sport in the summer. Since my wife and I are in our mid 60s, we are compelled to strength train twice a week. We work out with friends online so that is what keeps us consistent. I will typically do a short 3 x 3 sets of something after one of the rides on the weekend which makes it 2.5 strength workouts for me (usually these are either skill building, like clean and press or connective tissue work, like curls, rows, floor press, push-ups, etc.). I agree it depends on the athlete, goals, experience, etc. I definitely feel that strength training interferes with harder efforts on the bike, but it's a trade off I will make at my age.
