@gabe_2041 The most important thing that you left out is that the villain should in some way mirror or directly challenge the hero. A pure evil villain can work when your hero is pure good, for example avatar the last airbender, ozai has no redeeming qualities which is exactly why he works, because despite that aang still chooses not to kill him showing how good a person aang is. If ozai had a redeeming quality the story doesn't work anymore, so these are good, but not the rule
