Katee Boyle@kateeboyle It’s not every day you get to spend an afternoon listening to and learning from a legend in sculpture. I had the good fortune of spending time in @elaine_lorenz’s studio with fellow @sculptorsguild member Elaine Lorenz, alongside powerhouse artists @constancemcbride_art, @s_haviland, @juliea_lindell, and @donna_conklin_studios. We learned about the concepts, materials, and processes behind Elaine’s monumental concrete and fiber sculptures, as well as her extraordinary clay works. We finished the afternoon with a stroll through @laurelwoodsculpturetrl, viewing more than 17 large-scale sculptures, including Elaine’s Rejuvenation. @laurelwoodsculpturetrl is curated by @broadfootbroadfoot, whose gallery also represents and exhibits more of Elaine’s work. And there’s another opportunity to see Elaine’s work: she is included in the @sculptorsguild Members Exhibition, Principal Material, at @mora_museum, curated by @tinamanecaart. The exhibition opens Friday, October 2, as part of the @jc_artandstudiotour. An afternoon of art, conversation and community is a reminder of just how much we can learn from being in the studio with artists who have spent a lifetime committed to their practice.
