Detroit reportedly increased its offer from five years and $190 million to a fully guaranteed five-year, $200 million deal exactly $40 million per season, with no team or player option. Duren reportedly turned it down and continues to seek more than $200 million. Duren now faces a major decision before the October 1 deadline. He could accept Detroit’s $200 million offer, continue negotiating or bet on himself by signing the one-year, $9.6 million qualifying offer. Taking the qualifying offer would allow him to become an unrestricted free agent next summer, when Sacramento and Milwaukee have reportedly expressed interest—but no future offer is guaranteed. Duren earned his first All-Star selection and All-NBA Third Team honors after averaging 19.5 points and 10.5 rebounds during the regular season. But his production dropped to 10.2 points and 8.5 rebounds across 14 playoff games.
