Andy Warhol’s relationship with Piaget was not created by a collaboration. He was a client. Among the seven Piaget watches he owned was a yellow-gold Ref. 15102, bought in 1973 — the large, cushion-shaped watch whose design would eventually become so closely associated with him that Piaget officially gave it his name decades later. The ‘Collage’ takes that connection somewhere else. Its dial looks to a 1986 Polaroid collage self-portrait by Warhol, but never reproduces the image literally. Black onyx, pink opal, green chrysoprase and yellow serpentine reduce it to colour, contrast and fragmented geometry. That feels particularly appropriate for Warhol. The portrait is recognisable through its visual language rather than through a miniature reproduction of the artwork.

@car_design_studios These are exactly the kinds of watches that will shape the future of collecting. We are still far too fixated on the obvious icons: Daytona, Nautilus, Royal Oak. But it is watches like these that bring depth, personality and character to a collection. They say something about the collector, not just the market. 🙌
