On November 29, 1962, President Kennedy and Mrs. Kennedy spoke at a fundraising dinner for a National Cultural Center that would become known as “The Kennedy Center.” Here was a political leader who understood the importance of art. Also one who could quote Sophocles, Goethe, Dante, Aeschylus and Plato on prime time TV. Can you imagine that today?
