Before assuming it’s just a markup, and possibly some of it is, but frankly most of it comes from the factors below: - US Base Price: $1,999 pre-tax ➔ ~$2,15,000 post-tax in the US. - Local Assembly Savings: Apple makes standard iPhones locally in India to save ~17% import duty. - The CBU Reality: The iPhone Duo’s complex precision engineering (100+ hinge components, new PCB, custom display) requires new assembly tech that isn’t in India yet. - Taxes & Logistics: Importing it fully built (CBU) triggers heavy Import Duties + 18% GST + Forex buffers, driving up the cost by ₹60,000–₹70,000.
