Sifat Razwan•NYC Walking Show@thenycwalkingshow On the morning of September 11, 2001, photographer David Monderer left his Upper West Side apartment for the Manhattan Bridge pedestrian walkway with a medium format camera and tripod to capture the New York City skyline. Emerging into a brilliant blue sky, he set up his equipment at approximately 8:30 a.m. to photograph the symmetric elegance of the Twin Towers framed behind the Brooklyn Bridge. His shutter click produced some of the final images of the unscathed towers. While packing up at 8:46 a.m., Monderer heard a loud crash as American Airlines Flight 11 struck the North Tower. Both towers collapsed less than two hours later. Monderer’s final photo of the intact skyline now hangs at the 9/11 Memorial Museum, serving as the starting point for thousands of daily visitors to reflect on the moment before the tragedy. Though lower Manhattan has changed, his photograph preserves the memory of the Twin Towers and those who built them. #thenycwalkingshow #911memorial #newyorkcity #manhattan #nyc
