Wildlife Trust of India@wildlifetrustofindia A wild elephant was spotted in Numaligarh town in Golaghat district with a tyre around its neck. The elephant, seemingly roaming around in search of food, was spotted near tea gardens. A team from the Centre for Wildlife Rehabilitation and Conservation (CWRC), led by Dr Bhaskar Choudhury, Centre Head and Lead Veterinarian at the Wildlife Trust of India along with Dr Biswajit Baruah, Veterinary Officer at the State Dispensary, Kohora, had promptly made their way to the site. After the elephant was chemically immobilised, the rescue team carefully removed the tyre from around its neck, successfully freeing the distressed animal. Thanks to the incredible teamwork by the rescue team and locals to help return the elephant #backtothewild. @blessed2heal_animals If forests keep getting delisted and handed over for "development" what will the animals eat? They are forced into areas where humans live and litter. We have to reach out to local governments to save forest land. Kaziranga is a prime example of land being handed over to hotels etc.

@u.poojaj @wildlifetrustofindia why dont you'll run TV campaigns or programs to educate people on stopping elephant rides and reporting elephants in distress

@u.poojaj @wildlifetrustofindia, is there some legal case in India to stop elephant rides, just like Indonesia has banned?? The tyre was removed & that load was taken off the elephant. But what about elephants who are forced into begging, logging industry, forced breeding and captive arrangement and 5-6 people shamelessly climb and ride elephants for decades or for the entire life of the elephant until she is weak and then dumped somewhere??
