Spoke in parliament today on the Health Sciences Authority (Amendment) and Other Matters Bill. Bringing more healthcare regulatory functions under HSA makes sense, but consolidation should ultimately be about better outcomes, not simply a bigger regulator. A stronger regulator must also mean: • Better support, manpower and training for officers. • Strong public accountability when regulatory powers are exercised. • Faster, more responsive help for patients and consumers. • Fair treatment and due process for healthcare professionals.
