@ceramics_danielle if that was real and not an idealisation- then maybe kind of extensions - I don’t think a woman could have so much and so long hair.
@merieweather Could the more elaborate braided women be of times when they are dressing up—-maybe for a festival or n event where you would dress up. Something younger unmarried women would do to adorn themselves to bring more attention….:perhaps as a costume ball…it doesn’t see like just a “made up” hairstyle…..they seem intelligently and creatively done

@danielline.phillipine I like Botticelli and the Renaissance artists. And I just remembered - in high school I had the nickname: The Renaissance face 😂. But my long hair was light brown, not red 😁. Thanks Amy, interesting as usual. I adore your posts.

@amberpohle The pendant would add too much weight, and would pull down the braids, and bring down the volume of the hair hanging down in back, since the braid is outside that hair, not against the neck.

@tasha.lou I think men have been complaining that women should wear their hair down (or more loosely) for a very long time lol
@desivanrhee Probably a fantasy thing otherwise one would have expected this on other Renaissance paintings as well. Interesting though that the reliquary busts also have these braids. Perhaps used only for idealised persons; saints & goddesses?
