chi@slime4chi There are two main “arguments” people bring up with Kyle Walker and Pep - one was a blowup, the other was an awkward exit talk. The red card blowup - Dec 2021 Biggest public one. Walker got a straight red for kicking out at RB Leipzig’s André Silva in a dead-rubber Champions League group game. UEFA upgraded it to a 3-game ban for “assault.” Pep was furious. At the press conference he said: “He deserved it, he deserved the three, he did a stupid thing. I’m not kind to Kyle for this kind of action. I’m still so angry with him. He knows it – it’s not necessary”. City tried to appeal the ban, but Pep said he didn’t agree with it: “The club appealed but I did not agree, hopefully he learned”. Walker himself said later that Pep didn’t speak to him for a few days after. The exit conversation - Jan 2025 This one was less an argument, more uncomfortable. Walker asked to leave mid-season after 7.5 years and being named captain just 5 months earlier. He went to Txiki Begiristain, then had to tell Pep. Walker called it “uncomfortable” on The Overlap. He said he could’ve stayed and honored his contract, but he wanted to test himself in Europe again. Pep was “fine” with it publicly - said if a player’s not happy, you let them go. Walker ended up on loan at AC Milan, now at Burnley for 2025-26. The weird one in between: 2023 UCL final Pep benched Walker vs Inter and left him out of the starting XI, playing four centre-backs instead. But he asked Walker to give the pre-game speech in the dressing room. Walker: “My dream is in your hands now”. City won 1-0 and completed the Treble. So the real argument was the red card.
