And somehow, despite being one of the biggest players the NBA had ever seen, Yao carried himself with incredible calm and humor. He became a global superstar, helped put Chinese basketball on the NBA map, and became one of the most recognizable international players in league history. The injuries eventually robbed us of seeing just how far his career could have gone. But for those years when Yao was healthy? The NBA had never seen anything quite like him.
