This is what coaching past failure looks like. not stopping when it burns. not stopping when it gets uncomfortable. stopping when the muscle has been taken beyond its capacity and has nothing left to give. Watch Mentzer coaching in this clip. the athlete reaches concentric failure — the point where another full rep is physically impossible. Mentzer does not let him rack the weight. forced reps. partials. negatives. every last unit of stimulus extracted from the set before stopping. The research is consistent. the hardest reps — the ones closest to and beyond failure — produce the majority of the hypertrophic stimulus in any given set. everything before them is preparation. Mentzer understood this before most of the research existed. One set. coached past failure. that is enough. Save this. take your next set further than you have ever gone. Less noise. more results.
