Ana Tijoux is a Chilean-French rapper who was born in France in 1977 to Chilean parents who had fled the Pinochet dictatorship. After growing up in Paris and discovering hip-hop, she returned to Chile and became known first with the group Makiza before establishing herself as a solo artist. Her album 1977 marked a return to her hip-hop roots and was largely autobiographical. The title track is essentially Tijoux telling the story of her own life: childhood, adolescence, identity, displacement and discovering rap as a way to find her voice. The title refers to the year she was born, but the song became internationally known years later after appearing in Breaking Bad and in the FIFA video-game series. #music #musichistory #hiphop #latinmusic #latinhiphop
