Euan Rannachan@euanart Well… the bite saga continues. 😂 I completely forgot that I was also running a GoPro when I photographed this shark. Unfortunately, I also remembered why I never used the footage. I absolutely butchered my Protune settings that morning and didn’t realize it until later, so the exposure is rough. I’ve pulled back as much as I reasonably can, but this definitely isn’t the cleanest look at it. Still, I think the video is interesting because you can actually watch the shark move past and get another look at the shape of the wound. One thing that keeps standing out to me is how round the bite appears. A fully extended white shark bite can create an incredibly circular wound, and there’s also corresponding damage visible on the underside in the still photos. Does that prove what did it? Nope. But it’s another piece of the puzzle. So now that you’ve seen the photos and the video… What do you think bit this shark? 🦈

@leandro.ota Maybe this shark was bitten by a larger shark when it was younger and smaller. For some reason, the larger shark let go instead of continuing the attack, and this shark survived and grew up with the scar.
@anna.niemi.10 So the cuts and scrapes I have from when I was a child have not grown with me.. they are still today the same size as when I got them 30 years ago. I'm thinking scars don't grow? Also in one still picture I see deep fleshy light coloured dents in the scarring. I'm wondering if sharks heal quikly that this would be what? Two weeks? Just guessing. Would love to hear some biologist opinion?

@humble_beeee_ How big is the shark in the footage?
@aj_regulates I'm not ruling out a Great White closer to 30ft, reason being that sharks heal very fast. It could've been a territorial bite from a very large specimen while feeding on a whale carcass out at sea, we can't say for certain but we know JackShit about these oceans and even less about Great Whites.

@davidkingniner That’s another massive shark that bit it judging by size of mark I’d say a 20ft + shark bit it
@marclewis66 Another shark but its also a very healed scar so happened when the shark was smaller
