@polley_party_of_two I saw a sticker the other day that said AAC isn’t a last resort and I immediately knew I liked that teacher.

@coffeeandreadabook 😂😂 I like that advocate and I don't even know them. My kid's teacher last year repeated several times to us that the goal was verbal speech. No.. its communication. Our advocate said as much several times. My kid has AAC but speaks a bit. They did in fact force my kid to speak quite a bit at school. It caused anxiety and hindered progress.

@friendlyneighborhoodadvocate If they don’t know anything about nonverbal autism, why don’t they just admit it and consult with an expert, or just Google search? I don’t understand why they always double down instead of just admitting they don’t know anything about a specific disability. These people aren’t interns making no money to build out a resume. They are educated professionals, which just makes it even more baffling that they refuse to even try to understand.

@switchesladders A device doesn’t hinder or stop a person from speaking, but an AAC (augmentative and ALTERNATIVE communication) wil as a multi modal tool and support—and not to mention lower frustration!! Give him the device!
