Reel by Addie | Credit Card Points & Miles
The highly anticipated refresh of the American Express Platinum card happened, and I’m actually surprised that I don’t hate it!! 💳 The annual fee increase from $695 to $895 was the worst kept secret in the credit card community, so that wasn’t a surprise. What did surprise me is that NONE of the old benefits or credits were removed! 🙌 The brand new credits definitely add value to the card, but are they a good fit for your lifestyle? Here are a few that have turned my head: ✨Two $300 semi-annual credits for prepaid bookings at hotels belonging to Fine Hotels + Resorts or The Hotel Collection. Must book through the Amex travel portal. I’m already eyeing a staycation at The Jefferson Hotel! ✨A $100 statement credit each quarter for dining purchases at Resy restaurants. There are quite a few restaurant choices in my hometown, and we are sure to eat out at least once a quarter! ✨Quarterly $75 Lululemon credits. I suppose I can find something I need at Lululemon. Twist my arm, right? ✨$25 each month for specified digital entertainment purchases, which now includes YouTube TV. We cut the cable cord in favor of YouTube TV last year, so this credit is money in the bank. Despite a slew of travel and lifestyle benefits, a huge downside to the Amex Platinum is that it is a TERRIBLE card for everyday spend. Other than flights and hotels booked through the portal, you’ll only get one point per dollar on your purchases. The verdict? I renewed for another year when my annual fee hit in January! I’ll take it year by year, but right now this card is a keeper for me! What do you think about the Amex Platinum refresh? Do you plan to keep the card or is heading for the trash can? Let me know in the comments!👇 #pointsandmiles #amexplatinum #creditcards

@lucasbdr The hotel is not a good advantage… Valid for luxury hotels such as $1500/night and limited locations

@joshua.kraus.9 @arruda_kraus See you love yours !!!
@mattheauscaesar (a) Lululemon sells plastic clothing that cost 0.50 to produce, so that $300 credit is more like a $2 credit (b) the hotel credit portal marks up the cost of the stays, so that $600 credit is more like a $450 credit (c) the Resy credit is chill so that $400 credit I value at $6000 meaning the card has $6452 in credits that's why I keep it!

@arya_patel_1111 You gotta get that Platinum only changes how you live and travel, it's not for everyday use. So it really depends on your lifestyle when deciding if it suits you or not lol. If you think it's not worth it, it's because your lifestyle isn't on the same level as the card.

@ryanholgado Venture X is the better value. Only $395 fee, and you recoup completely with only two credits: 10,000 miles yearly bonus, and $300 annual credit for hotels booked through their travel site (the prices are not inflated). So it’s essentially free if you travel (which why would you have this card otherwise), and get you free airport lounge access.
