A face mask cannot simply “remove” this melanin. Most de-tan masks rely on temporary exfoliation , which may make the skin look fresher but does not reverse the underlying melanogenesis. ✔️What works: Consistent broad-spectrum sunscreen with evidence-based pigment actives and shade seeking behaviour ▪️Pore-tightening creams Pores are openings of the pilosebaceous unit, and their size is influenced by genetics, sebum production, skin elasticity and age. A cream cannot permanently shrink their anatomical size. ✔️What works: niacinamide, retinoids and salicylic acid which reduce oiliness, improve cell turnover and make pores appear less prominent but “closing” pores isn’t biologically possible. 3️⃣ Sunscreen mists Sunscreen mists are ineffective as they are often poor at delivering an adequate, uniform amount of sunscreen when sprayed casually over the face. Sunscreen protection depends on applying a sufficient film of product. With a mist, it’s easy to under-apply or miss areas, resulting in much lower real-world protection than the labelled SPF. ✔️what works: cream, lotions or gel formulation of sunscreens which form a uniform predictable layer on the skin. #SkincareScience #Dermatologist #SkinHealth #SkincareMyths #Sunscreen Pigmentation Pores
