Around 18 to 23 million developers worldwide use Python, with activity spread across nearly every country on Earth including Antarctica, which saw a 379% jump in developer activity on GitHub in 2024, growing from just 19 to 91 developers. Python's rise is largely driven by the Al and machine learning boom, since it is the go-to language for tools like TensorFlow and PyTorch. Over 51% of developers in the 2024 Stack Overflow survey reported using Python, and its growth on GitHub has averaged 22.5% year over year. The 2024 Python Developer Survey, run by the Python Software Foundation and JetBrains, collected responses from more than 30,000 developers across nearly 200 countries.
