A few things I’ve picked up along the way through 7 internships, hard lessons, and a lot of trial and error. 1️⃣ Start your demo reel NOW. Don’t wait until you “feel ready” Grab your phone, practice your stand-ups in the mirror, save every hit you do. Future you will thank present you. 2️⃣ Take the free opportunities. The unpaid gig, the small assignment nobody else wants, the “can you cover this real quick” — say yes. Experience compounds. Reels don’t build themselves. 3️⃣ Post your work! Don’t let your best hits collect dust in a camera roll. News directors can’t hire what they can’t see. Your Instagram is a portfolio now, whether you meant it to be or not. 4️⃣ Smaller markets can be the BEST starting place. Utilize what’s around you — local teams, local stories, local sources. You’ll get more reps, more mic time, and more room to find your voice than you ever would starting big. #journalist #aspiringjournalist #sportsjournalist #journalismstudent #careeradvice
