China's steepest fall - 5.8 to 2.7 children per woman - happened in the 1970s, BEFORE the policy began in 1980. And when China ended it in 2016 and started asking for babies, the fall accelerated: 1.77 then, 1.00 now. India ran the control experiment. No national birth ban, yet fertility fell from 5.73 to 1.98 - below the 2.1 replacement level. Two countries, opposite policies, same destination. Development did the banning: education, cities, cost of living. The decree barely mattered. @eyesspice.grow Equivalent of western country (Canada I believe) putting sticker of pothole to reduce driving speed…whereas India has real potholes so we both reach the same place on metrics ✌🏻 For population control, India homes us year long pollution, cancer causing food, unattended garbage piles, non walkable cities, joke in name of traffic control, and then just to top it up they increase the pollution levels once per year. Just like an exterminator.

@rawkeron If India had done it properly , India won’t have crossed China in population . This chart only talks about replacement rate , but actual population in India shot up and overtook China in the mean time while India has limited land area and resources for the population.
