Rather than choosing a colour straight from a bottle, we swatched multiple pigments and custom-mixed a shade that perfectly matched the look she loves. Her main concerns were: • Pale natural lip colour • Loss of definition around the edges • A white-looking outline around the lips That white outline is actually called the vermillion border. As we age, this border can become less defined, causing the lips to appear smaller, flatter, and less vibrant. To recreate her desired look, we used a richer tone around the outer lip and blended it seamlessly into a softer pink through the centre. This creates dimension, definition, and a natural-looking result that mimics the way she applies her lip liner and lipstick. One of the biggest misconceptions I hear is, “I think I need lip filler.” In many cases, what people are actually noticing is a loss of colour and definition, not a lack of volume. By restoring the vermillion border and adding colour back into the lips, lip tattooing will make lips appear fuller, more balanced, and more youthful without changing their natural shape.
