@abigracexp I don't know if it's different in different states, but I worked fast food for years and never had a problem with people bringing food in. Yeah, most places don't want it, cuz they want your money. But I've never heard of it being against code. Weird.
@nightingale_1819 A someone who lives with MCAS for years now I would say the potential reason you cannot drink outside water is the harsh chemical soap 🧼 they use leaves residues on the glasses etc. This has triggered severe reactions for me. Until I went on a deep research dive into common soaps in the food industry, the things you research when you have MCAS.

@melissa.8675309 I have been bringing gf bread or buns for years to help my broaden my choices when I eat out. Probably have done this in 20-50 restaurants. Not one has told me couldn’t. But I have always ordered something.
@midwifery_and_craft I think the case of normal food allergies they may say they can accommodate but in your case irs literally formula you are prescribed making it a medicine. I think if he had listened he would have understood and allowed it. I would reach out not to complain but maybe to explain further and see if they will listen the second time. Might be they understood and still wanted to say no
@jaimeethesafehaven_ In Colorado this is not allowed. Food safety and liability overrules accommodation especially because there was a communal eating area within walking distance. If there was no communal eating area then maybe but they aren’t required to accommodate you when accommodations are a block away coming from a girl with mcas ❤️

@rsingh0821 Legit question...so do you carry a reasonable accommodation letter from your physician that states what your restrictions and limitations are? Everyone so quick to say "I have to be accommodated due to ADA laws" True...to some extent as long as there are no health code violations...but without having a physician sign off on the said reasonable accommodation, you cant just go claiming that everyone has to accommodate you on a whim. This doesnt mean your diagnosis has to be disclosed, it just means your word is being backed up by a medical professional.
@iblondevagabond Something I will do is offer to pay the menu equivalent (within reason) of what i’m needing to bring in.
@shellysaysitis You can't expect a restaurant to break the rules for you. Because then they would have to break the rules for everyone. And then everyone could bring whatever food they wanted into the restaurant just by saying that they have a disability, then basically restaurants are a place where people can bring their food and have a picnic in air conditioning with free water. And restaurants would go out of business. It's like somebody claiming they're insane, and that's why they murdered someone else. Why don't we all just say we're insane and go around murdering people? You could eat your food beforehand and enjoy your time with your friends and pretend to drink the water.
@ia_zia But if ur not making a purchase you are not a customer so how are they legally required to accommodate? Curious
@eobrien04 You need to add that any of their food will cause anaphylaxis which will lead to death. They need to understand because of the MCAS you were all allergic to everything and because of that you can’t have cross-contamination and there’s nothing you can eat. Trust me I understand this because it’s my everyday life. And when I let them know that they can kill me and then I show them EpiPen’s normally they stop. I also did human resources for healthcare company for many years. I’m not writing the language that needs to be written here. I’m sure somebody can write it better but explaining the consequences of death due to your disability should let them stop being jerks. It’s not a huge coach violation for you to have your own food. They bring their own food. Remember that. Next time ask for a manager if some waiter gives you a hard time but yeah, I have something in writing and do legal use on them. I’d actually add some code to that.

@sarabjorksi You should make sure to first mention your disability and then say you brought your own food to be able to sit with your friends. They immediately shut down if you open with "I brought my own food". That is not your fault, it comes from people who feel entitled to eat their own food to avoid paying.
