@lav_manevski I don't like this, it shows that the martial art you are teaching is ineffective. He could "hurt" you... If you're a 4th degree black belt against this drunk lad that stumbles in and starts teaching, you oughtta do something. Personally for example, in my gym, 100% he would get taken down, restrained and taken care of (not in a violent way, could just get kicked out but he will get roughed up obviously...) because my gym has... well... Real mixed martial artists. So if something like this happens to you, and you train this martial art but you cannot do anything about it... then why train it?!
@pncshnel You showed them how to properly de-escalate from a stressful situation. And every so often, we get that 1 situation where the fawn response is necessary because our levels of explosiveness could jeopardize others

@dwill_wrld_ I’m glad that you got to the other side of the things you were going through back then. Heart breaking that there are men who are weird like that, it’s something I genuinely can’t fathom. Nice of you to speak out about experiences like that it’s very important that other people hear about it. I hope you’re in a much better place now. We appreciate your vulnerability especially on the internet. It’s nice to know that your students has a strong, brave, and smart person like you as their leader.

@awesome_jex Its something that happens you are turning it into a learning experience teaching others. His friends should have turned him away. Im suprised a kids parent didnt help you. At our Dojo we are close knit you mess with anyone parents and students back us up. Dont be afraid to ask for help because there will always be someone there to back you up giving you courage or just support. Dont think you let them down. You protected your students thats what counts. Next time if there is one have a phrase you can say to the students that says I need help. You are aweaome to talk about it and that in itself says you didnt fail.

@runningon3 There were children present. You did what you thought was best for them at the time. Being confrontational with an irrational person isn't usually wise. A drunk woman walked into my school (I was there as a parent that day, head instructor was out of town). Another parent confronted her aggressively and she was just argumentative and causing a scene. I didn't want things to get violent so I asked if I could buy her some food and that worked. She was obviously homeless, so it worked. It's hard to know what to do when you are surprised.

@wmmaa_shobukan Abusive narcissists are attracted to ppl whe are programmed to De-escalate, bc they don't fear any consequences. Been there

@sonicpickups There are a lot of ego driven ways to deal with a situation like that. I think you chose the more peaceful route. Drunks can be incredibly unpredictable. It is a fluid engagement if you will permit the pun. I think your students saw it for what it was. The best parts about those situations is they help you make solid plans for the next time it happens.

@hippy_griffy Bloody hell. This sounds downright nightmarish, especially in context. I guess that does highlight one aspect of self-defence that most of us were never taught: how to manage a situation, how to deescalate, etc. I suspect that it was even worse in your experience, as I'm guessing that there were no other adults who could back you up, call the police and so on. Good to hear that nobody got hurt.
