Mike Kelly@mike_kelly_photography Few places have a contrast as stark as India. On one side, some of the most beautiful natural landscapes on Earth, home to extraordinary wildlife. On the other, some of the most polluted cities in the world. This first clip was taken in Varanasi, where it felt as though no street or riverbank wasn’t entirely covered in trash. How does this happen? Rapid urbanization and a massive rise in population have driven consumption levels to new highs. Combined with inefficient waste management systems, many of India’s cities have been left buried in refuse. At times, the problem can feel insurmountable. But there are serious efforts underway to reverse it—landfill remediation projects, expanded waste collection, and new bans on single-use plastics. India is a beautiful country, rich in culture and home to stunning national parks. I’m hopeful to see the impact of these initiatives on future trips, because it’s easily one of the countries I plan to return to the most. There is truly an endless amount to explore here. #india #varanasi #contrast #explore #travel
