About Toysrus
Toys”R”Us (toysrus), the American toy retailer, recently announced it is opening 120 new standalone stores across the USA for the 2026 holiday season. The expansion brings the total to 160 standalone locations, alongside 400+ shop-in-shops inside Macy’s department stores. A September 22, 2026 post showcased a first-person tour of the Camarillo, CA store featuring Geoffrey the Giraffe, LEGO sets, and Barbie displays.
The brand was founded in 1957 by Charles Lazarus and filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in 2017, closing all U.S. stores in 2018. It was acquired by WHP Global in 2021 and is now rebuilding through a partnership with Go! Retail Group using a smaller 3,500–7,500 square foot format. The relaunch focuses on the adult collector market while maintaining family-friendly appeal.
Toys”R”Us Asia operates separately under Fung Group, with a Singapore location at JEM on Jurong Gateway Road offering weekly Calm Hours for neurodivergent shoppers. The brand also ran a September 2026 redemption promotion in Singapore with discounted toys starting at $17.99 for purchases over $15.
