About San Diego Nascar Race
NASCAR held its inaugural points-paying race on an active military base at Naval Base Coronado in San Diego during June 19-21, 2026. The Anduril 250 Cup Series race took place on the 3.4-mile, 16-turn Qualcomm Circuit, marking the first time NASCAR’s top division raced on a temporary street course inside a U.S. military installation. Corey Heim won the Cup Series event after Shane van Gisbergen and Connor Zilisch crashed out.
The weekend also featured the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series and Xfinity Series as part of the “Race the Base” celebration for the Navy’s 250th anniversary and the nation’s 250th birthday. The course mixed new asphalt with rougher sections similar to Sebring, creating heavy tire wear and a technical challenge for drivers. The event replaced Chicago’s street race on the 2026 schedule.
NASCAR is now discussing making San Diego a multi-year event starting in 2027 after a successful debut. The race highlighted the partnership between the Navy and NASCAR, with cars passing military aircraft and carriers on the base.
