About Pinddaan
Pinddaan Gaya 2025 is a Hindu ritual performed in Gaya during Pitru Paksha to help departed ancestors attain salvation and liberation from the cycle of rebirth. The ceremony involves offering rice flour balls made of rice, wheat, sesame seeds, honey and milk at holy sites like the Vishnupad Temple, Falgu River and Akshaya Vat. Gaya is considered the most sacred place for this rite, with the annual Pitripaksha Mela drawing pilgrims across India.
The process includes bathing, sankalpa, pind daan and tarpan at three mandatory locations. Devotees keep the names and gotra of ancestors ready, as priests guide the rituals and commute between sites. Costs vary from around INR 1200 to INR 21000 depending on the scale, with separate payments often made to pandas and staff. Daughters can also perform pind daan in modern practice, especially when there are no sons.
Bihar State Tourism Development Corporation now offers one-day and two-day packages from September 25 to October 10, 2026, covering transport, accommodation, meals and puja materials. Visitors should wear white clothes, use kusha grass for sprinkling water and follow post-ritual practices like worshipping Lord Vishnu and feeding Brahmins at home.
