About Midautumn
China’s Mid-Autumn Festival, also called the Moon Festival, falls on the 15th day of the eighth lunar month when the full moon represents completeness and family reunion. In 2026 it is celebrated on September 25, coinciding with the Harvest Moon closest to the autumnal equinox. Families gather for dinner, admire the moon, share mooncakes, and light lanterns as part of traditions over 3,000 years old.
The festival emphasizes gratitude for the harvest and togetherness, with origins in ancient moon worship and agricultural rituals. It is widely observed in Singapore and across East and Southeast Asia, often paired with legends like Chang’E and the Jade Rabbit. Public celebrations feature lantern displays, cultural performances, and community events in parks and gardens.
