About Mancity Fans
Manchester City supporters are officially called the Cityzens, a play on the word "Citizen" tied to the club’s name. The term became official through the club’s free membership program, where joining makes a fan a "Cityzen". It also carries an implied swipe at Manchester United, suggesting City’s fanbase has more genuine local Manchester citizens compared to United’s global "plastic" supporters.
The fanbase has a reputation for loyalty, with attendances even rising during the club’s 1998 drop to the third tier of English football. Known as the "Sky Blues," supporters sing "Blue Moon" and are recognized for bringing inflatable bananas to matches, a tradition that started as a joke about former player Imre Varadi. Only about one percent of City’s fanbase lives in the UK, with the majority based overseas due to global TV and social media growth.
Recent discussions among City fans have also focused on on-field performances, including criticism of defender Ruben Dias after a 5-3 win over Sunderland in September 2026. The Cityzens continue to celebrate the club’s success, including the 2022-23 Treble and multiple Premier League titles.
