About Levarburton
LeVar Burton is an American actor, director and literacy advocate best known as host of Reading Rainbow and as Geordi La Forge in Star Trek: The Next Generation. He first gained fame at 19 as Kunta Kinte in the 1977 miniseries Roots and has won multiple Daytime Emmys and a Peabody Award for his work in children’s education.
Burton continues to promote literacy through projects like the Skybrary app and the LeVar Burton Book Club with Fable. He also hosts the podcast LeVar Burton Reads and the Trivial Pursuit game show on The CW since October 2024. His memoir Take My Word for It, co-written with Tracey Michae’l Lewis-Giggetts, is scheduled for publication on November 10, 2025.
