About Kudla
Kudla is the traditional Tulu name for Mangaluru in Karnataka, meaning "junction" due to its location at the confluence of the Nethravathi and Phalguni rivers. The term is widely used by the Tulu-speaking diaspora globally to maintain cultural identity across borders.
The name also appears in other contexts including Kudla Village in Nanded district, Maharashtra, and Kudla Railway Station near Adelaide, Australia. Tulu communities in cities like Berlin use "Kudla" to organize cultural events and support newcomers.
Linguistically, "Kuḍla" is taught in Tulu Script lessons as a key word, with the letter "ka" containing an inverted heart shape. The name connects Tuluvas worldwide.
