About Jungle Movie Behind The Scenes
<Greg McLean>'s 2017 survival drama <Jungle>, starring <Daniel Radcliffe>, was filmed mainly in Queensland’s Mount Tamborine on the Gold Coast in Australia. The production recreated the Amazon rainforest environment there, with additional establishing shots filmed in Colombia to capture authentic village and wider landscape scenes. The crew used safety harnesses while working near the treacherous Colombian Amazon waters to avoid accidents during the shoot.
The film is based on Yossi Ghinsberg’s true 1981 journey through the Bolivian Amazon, so the team aimed for realism while honoring the survivors involved. Director Greg McLean said the cast and crew took the responsibility seriously since two people from the original story were never found. Radcliffe trained extensively for the physically demanding role, which required long days in remote, rugged terrain.
In contrast, <Disney>'s 2021 <Jungle Cruise> used a water tank in Atlanta and sound stages in Hawaii to simulate the Amazon river, rather than filming in a real jungle. Cinematographer Flavio Martínez Labiano designed the tank to match natural lighting, while VFX teams built most of the environment digitally.
