About How To Play The Snaps Game
Aramide and her friend introduce Snaps as a word-guessing game where one player thinks of a secret word and gives clues using sentences and finger snaps. The snapper starts by saying either "Snaps is the name of the game" if spelling the word directly, or "Snaps isn’t the name of the game" if giving a clue. For each letter, they make a sentence where the first word begins with that letter, and snap their fingers once for each vowel sound in the word to help the other player guess.
To play the card version of Snap, shuffle a standard deck and deal all cards face down equally among players. Players take turns flipping the top card from their pile into a central pile. If two face-up cards match in rank, like two Kings, the first player to shout "Snap!" wins both piles and adds them to the bottom of their face-down pile. The game continues until one player collects all the cards. If two players call "Snap" at the same time, the matching piles form a "Snap Pot" that can be won later when another matching card appears.
The Snaps word game relies on quick listening and pattern recognition, while the card game focuses on speed and reflexes. Both versions are often used to energize groups and create laughter through shared competition. Mistaken calls in the card game usually cost the player a card, and the last player with cards remaining wins.
