FDNY response times for life-threatening medical emergencies rose to 9 minutes 13 seconds in fiscal 2026, up 1 minute 28 seconds from the prior year according to the New York City Mayor’s Management Report. The NYPD also reported longer end-to-end response times for crimes in progress, averaging 15 minutes 21 seconds, nearly 30 seconds slower than last year. Officials noted the city handled 20,000 additional 911 calls during the period despite overall declines in major crimes including murders and shootings.
The report covers the final six months of the Adams administration and first six months of Zohran Mamdani’s mayoralty. While some overall response metrics worsened, the end-to-end average for serious crimes in progress fell 3% to 12 minutes 35 seconds, a decrease of 1 minute 35 seconds. FDNY ambulance response times alone increased from 11 minutes 21 seconds to 13 minutes 9 seconds during the same timeframe.
Recent FDNY activity includes Squad 252 responding from its Brooklyn firehouse in late August 2026, documented by creator Downtown Dom. Other incidents include a four-alarm Brooklyn restaurant fire in September that injured six firefighters and a Bronx apartment fire that left one dead and ten injured.
