About Edusave
Prudential Uganda launched Pru Edusave Plus on Tuesday as one of three new financial products aimed at helping families plan for education costs. The plan lets parents save for a child’s education over five to 15 years with monthly contributions from Shs150,000. If the policyholder dies or becomes disabled, future premiums are waived while the policy continues to pay benefits and the full sum assured at maturity.
In Singapore, Edusave is a government scheme that automatically sets up an account for every Singaporean student aged six to 16 to help with school expenses. Funds earn 2.5% interest annually and can be used for enrichment programmes and, from 2024, all miscellaneous fees in government and government-aided schools. The Ministry of Education also provides Edusave Awards to recognise students for academic, leadership and service achievements, with recent ceremonies shared by Prime Minister Lawrence Wong in January 2026.
Parents can authorise an Edusave Enrichment Programme Standing Order for schools to deduct approved programme fees directly from the account. Outside Singapore, banks like CBZ Bank run similar Edusave promotions for schools, offering cash prizes to encourage deposits in education savings accounts.
