About Daytonohio
Dayton, Ohio is the sixth-largest city in Ohio and the county seat of Montgomery County, located in the Miami Valley region. The city had a population of about 136,688 as of July 2025 and a metro area population over 800,000, making it Ohio’s fourth-largest metro area. Dayton is widely known as the “Birthplace of Aviation” due to the Wright brothers who built and tested their first powered aircraft there. The city also hosts Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, a major hub for aerospace research and defense.
The city has a strong legacy of innovation beyond aviation, including inventions like the electric starter by Charles F. Kettering and the first electric cash register by the National Cash Register Company. Dayton’s economy has shifted from heavy manufacturing to sectors like healthcare, government, and insurance. Its most prominent attraction is the National Museum of the United States Air Force, the oldest and largest military aviation museum in the world.
In September 2025, Dayton gained attention after a widely shared social media report about the arrest of caretaker Anthony Alacorn, who was charged with assaulting a disabled woman in a transport van. The incident sparked public discussion about oversight and safety for vulnerable adults in the area.
