About Cyclingcommunity
Cycling UK was formed in 1878 as one of the oldest cycling clubs, providing a foundation for local and national cycling groups. Today cycling communities include everything from local recreational clubs to advocacy coalitions and virtual groups. Many focus on group rides, bike repair workshops, and promoting safer streets for all riders, while others use online platforms to connect cyclists globally.
Ontario Cycling and the Share the Road Cycling Coalition recently launched a program to unite cycling clubs across Ontario with advocacy toolkits and safety workshops. Nonprofit bike shops like Community Cycles in Boulder and the former Community Bicycle Network in Toronto offer DIY repair spaces and education to make cycling more accessible and sustainable for residents.
Virtual spaces have also grown, with platforms like Zwift hosting inclusive groups such as the Herd and DIRT for riders balancing family and training. Online forums like r/cycling on Reddit and BikeRide connect over 290,000 members to share training tips, gear advice, and event information.
