The Rs 4,200 crore Lucknow-Kanpur elevated expressway is under scrutiny after a large section caved in within 12 days of its inauguration on July 13. NHAI has banned PNC Infratech and its subsidiary for three years from bidding on new projects due to construction flaws and road subsidence. Toll collection on the entire stretch has been suspended and the company was asked to compensate for losses.
In Kanpur city, the Ganga water level remained above the warning mark for the sixth consecutive day as of last week, though it dropped by about 0.15 metres. Low-lying areas in the Katri belt saw roads submerged under 3 to 4 feet of water, with residents using boats and tractors for commuting.
For local weather, Kanpur was seeing partly cloudy conditions with temperatures around 32-34°C in the afternoon, and showers were forecast for the evening with around 0.6-0.7 mm of rain expected.
