About Caste
Caste is an inherited social hierarchy in India that assigns status, occupation, marriage, and access to resources at birth rather than through wealth or merit. It is rooted in the four-tier Varna system of Brahmins, Kshatriyas, Vaishyas, and Shudras, with Dalits outside the structure as "untouchables". Caste determines social separation, ritual purity, and endogamous marriage, creating rigid mobility barriers.
