About Cannes2026
79th Cannes Film Festival (cannes.2026), held from 12 to 23 May 2026 in Cannes, France, announced its official selection on 9 April 2026. The festival opened with Pierre Salvadori’s period-comedy The Electric Kiss and awarded the Palme d’Or to Cristian Mungiu’s drama Fjord. Honorary Palmes d’Or were presented to Peter Jackson, John Travolta, and Barbra Streisand during the ceremonies.
The 2026 edition featured 22 films in competition, with South Korean director Park Chan-wook serving as jury president. Notable titles included works by Hirokazu Kore-eda, Ryūsuke Hamaguchi, and Pawel Pawlikowski, while Nicolas Winding Refn’s Her Private Hell premiered out of competition. The festival also hosted the Marché du Film, drawing industry professionals from 250 countries.
Alongside the film events, Cannes hosted the 48th Régates Royales sailing competition in late September 2026, with more than 150 classic yachts racing in the Bay of Cannes. The city also held the 49th Cannes Yachting Festival in early September, showcasing nearly 150 world premieres across the Vieux Port and Port Canto.
