About Brownesdairy
Brownes Dairy, Australia’s oldest dairy company founded in 1886, has been formally put up for sale by receivers McGrathNicol in 2025 after its parent Australia Zhiran Co defaulted on a $200 million loan to China Mengniu Dairy. The Western Australian processor continues normal operations, supplying milk, yoghurt, cheese and its Hunt & Brew coffee to Coles, Woolworths and IGA.
The company generates about $288 million in annual revenue and collects 150 million litres of milk yearly from WA farms. Brownes recently expanded into the UK, acquiring a Berkshire facility to produce Hunt & Brew cold brew for Tesco stores.
