Transitional bilingual education gradually shifts students to English, while maintenance or dual-language models aim for sustained biliteracy. Districts like Deer Park Independent School District now train teachers in cross-linguistic tools such as translanguaging and bridging to support multilingual classrooms.
Programs also address inclusivity, with new models integrating sign language for deaf students and culturally responsive practices. International efforts like the Ndaw Wune program in Senegal use locally made textbooks pairing French with native languages to boost confidence and attendance, especially for girls.
