Aing is a Sundanese term popularized by Kang Dedi Mulyadi, the Governor of West Java, who is often called “Bapak Aing” by supporters. It means “me” or “I” in Sundanese and is used affectionately in his public speeches and social media content. The phrase has become a viral nickname associated with his policies and outreach in Indonesia.
The word also appears in other contexts unrelated to this usage. In online slang, “aing” is a playful exclamation for something confusing or amusing. In tech, AING stands for Adaptive Incremental Neural Gas, an algorithm for data clustering. In Swedish, “aning” means “a bit” or “premonition”.
In 2026, Bappeda Jawa Barat launched “Asuransi Aing,” a social protection program for informal workers in West Java. The program covers over 813,000 participants across sectors like agriculture, trade, and gig work as of September 2026.
