@_petr_vondra The claim is misleading. The fungus does not simply “eat plastic” in general. Research has shown that certain strains can break down specific types of polyurethane under controlled laboratory conditions. That is very different from being able to consume everyday plastic waste in the environment or “save the planet.” The discovery is scientifically interesting, but the headline greatly exaggerates what has actually been demonstrated.
