NC Weather Authority@ncwx_authority Fuel and food shortages are beginning to develop on Hatteras Island, as they’ve been stranded from the mainland for almost 2 days. Highway 12 remains closed, with no reopening timeline; part of the road is now completely washed out and underwater on Pea Island. I highly doubt the road will reopen this weekend, and I'll be shocked if it is fixed by the beginning of the week just based on my experience with this. @mark_n_elisha Panic buying is hard to stop. It makes no sense for the store to be out of meat and I’m sure other items. This forecast was in place for several days prior to the storm hitting. You live in a vulnerable place and should either leave or prepare when the forecast shows ANY possibility of HWY 12 being damaged. I’m so sorry this has happened to the residents and the land.
